EFL Freer Practice - Concentration Cards
In this challenging grammar activity, students encounter new vocabularies and various forms of verbs. Divide the students into groups. If you have students at least two students, or two participants including you, you can find the activity entertaining.
The teacher prepare two different colour of flashcards, lay them down on the table. The students sit in a circle. Before you lay the cards down, mix them first. Various colour of the flashcards can be used, it depends on the grammar practices you want the students to explore. For example, in Picture 1 you can see orange cards with Verb 1
The rules are simple. Each participant will take turn to open two cards. The rest of the students will take turns to open the cards. The students need to pay attention closely to find the matched verbs. In Picture 2 and 3, for example, you can find matched verbs of die (die - dies - died) and eat (eat - ate)
Pictue 1: Orange and red cards wirh verbal forms of present simple (verb 1) and past simple (verb 2)
Picture 2: White, yellow, and orange cards; with verb 1, verb 1(+s/es/ies), and verb 2

Picture 3: A student who can find the matched verbs will have the verbs as one point
Afterwards, the students who get a lot of matched cards will win the game. The verbs used depend on your students’ English levels. As I have got 10 maximum students, I can make the cards bigger and spread them on the floor. From my experience, this activity worked really well in every level I have thought.
You can also use use the game to introduce new vocabularies and to expose students with more vocabularies. In Picture 4, I use the game to let students find the match cards.
