This or That

 This or That

Conditions:

- Individual

- Quiet or active students

- Need preparation (e.g. lists of target vocabularies)

Procedures:

If you're in a class, you can do the following rules.

- Divide your class into two spaces, 'this space' or 'that space'. You can draw a line between them or set a red ribbon to separate them.

- Ask all students to stand in one space.

- Getting ready...

- The teacher will call out two target vocabularies and ask the students to choose 'this' or 'that' (e.g. which pet animal would you like to have? dog or cat) by pointing out one space.

- No one will be the winner in this game. But, they are going to have fun when they anticipate what kind of questions and options will appear.

If you're in an online class, you can do this practice as follows.

- The teacher prepare options of target vocabularies in JPG format or in pieces of papers.

- The students will choose between the options by moving their head, pointing out, or moving the camera to the direction of their choices.

- The teacher can also reveal the options one by one, so the students will anticipate the questions. The student will be given 5 seconds to decide their choice, which they will later draw a circle on their choice or shout out the words if they aren't able to draw on the screen.

Teaching notes:

This game might not be suitable if the student relies on their friend's answer so that they can stay together. That's why, the teacher can encourage that they need to choose wisely and tell the students that they don't need to follow their friends or allies.
